The School
Excellence in Dominican College
Dominican College has a strong culture of success and excellence. Students from the school have excelled in all areas both while in school and after they have left.
In their Leaving Certificate examinations we have students achieving maximum points each year. In 2013 one of our students achieved A1 grades in all 8 subjects placing her in a very select band of just 8 students in the entire country who achieved 8 A1 grades. This is the second time in recent years that one of our students has achieved 8 A1 grades.
In 2013 a number of students gained over 600 points, 26% of our students gained over 500 points and 20% of all the grades at Leaving Cert achieved by our students at higher level were A grades - 66% above the national average.
Over the past number of years students from Dominican College have been awarded gold medals on 3 occasions for achieving full marks in Leaving Cert Physics - an outstanding achievement for all involved.
Our students continue to excel when they proceed to third level. Our graduates have progressed to all the universities and colleges in Ireland including NUIG, Trinity College, UCD, UCC, UL and DCU amongst others. Some have gone on to study at universities abroad including Oxford, Cambridge and Harvard. Many have won scholarships for a range of universities.
Our students have excelled in a wide range of areas aside from the academic including hockey (in which our under-15s and under-16s are
current Connaught champions for 2012-13), soccer (our under-16 team were runners up in the Connaught final), Young Scientist &
Scifest (for which they have won many awards), statistics (two of our students recently came 1st in a national CSO statistics competition
and 2nd in the world), debating, music etc.
